Associate Software Engineer – MuleSoft API Integrations & Workflow Solutions

Location: Falls Church, VA (must be on-site in office, with partial telework flexibility)

We are seeking a highly capable Associate Software Engineer with proven experience in MuleSoft API development and enterprise system integration. This role is primarily focused on designing and delivering scalable, secure, and reusable integration solutions using the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform. A key responsibility will be enabling API-based connectivity to enterprise systems, including workflow applications like BizFlow. While prior BizFlow experience is not required, the engineer will be expected to also learn the BizFlow platform to support integration and, over time, assist in relevant development tasks. What You’ll Do:

· Design, develop, and deploy APIs and integrations using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (Mule 4) to connect enterprise systems, cloud services, and databases

· Collaborate with business analysts, product owners, QA teams, and developers to define and implement effective integration solutions

· Develop and maintain API specifications using RAML, ensuring alignment with design and documentation standards

· Build reusable API assets and enforce best practices in API-led connectivity and modular service design

· Monitor and troubleshoot integration flows using MuleSoft logs, Anypoint Monitoring, and Splunk

· Ensure high performance, reliability, and availability of production-grade integration solutions

· Participate in code reviews, unit/integration testing, and Agile CI/CD pipelines to support code quality and delivery speed

· Troubleshoot and resolve issues in existing MuleSoft applications and APIs, maintaining and improving system functionality

· Learn the BizFlow platform as needed to support API integration points and contribute to workflow logic or business services as required

· Deliver outstanding technical and customer support, engaging clients with empathy, clear communication, and a solution-focused mindset.

Essential Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

· 3+ years of software engineering or backend development experience

· 2+ years of hands-on experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (Mule 4), including Anypoint Studio, API Manager, and Runtime Manager

· Experience managing the full API lifecycle, including design, testing, publishing, versioning, and monitoring

· Proficient in RESTful and SOAP API development, with secure authentication (OAuth 2.0, JWT)

· Strong programming experience in Java, JavaScript, or similar backend languages

· Experience with data transformation using DataWeave, and working with JSON, XML, and CSV formats

· Proficiency with MuleSoft connectors, error handling, and API policies

· Hands-on experience using Postman for API testing, mocking, and validation

· Experience with monitoring/logging tools, including Splunk, for debugging and observability

· Skilled in API testing using MUnit, Postman, or equivalent tools

· Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, Git-based version control, and CI/CD pipelines

· Fostered collaboration across teams by translating technical challenges into actionable solutions and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement

· Strong communication skills and ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation (e.g., Swagger/OpenAPI)

· Willingness and ability to learn the BizFlow application platform for integration and limited workflow development

· Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and diagnostic skills to investigate, analyze, and resolve technical issues efficiently.

· Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users in both written and verbal forms.

· Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in agile or cross-functional teams.

· Quick learning ability—you’re comfortable picking up new tools, workflows, and platforms.

· A team-oriented mindset, you work well with others, communicate clearly, and contribute positively.

· A service-first attitude—you thrive in customer-facing situations and enjoy helping people solve technical challenges.

· Authorization to work in the U.S.

· Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

· MuleSoft Certified Developer (Level 1 or higher)

· Experience working in federal, healthcare, or regulated IT environments

· Deep knowledge and experience in front-end or back-end development frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Node.js, Spring).

· Familiarity with enterprise service buses (ESBs), messaging queues, or event-driven architectures

· Demonstrated success in building strong user relationships and delivering high-quality client support.

· Exposure to BizFlow or other low-code platforms

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent customer relationship-building abilities.
